For most people, a home will represent the largest single
investment they will ever make. You should be sure you have enough coverage.
This covers your home and other structures on your property (garages,
outbuildings, fences) for a variety of risks including:
-
fire
-
smoke damage
-
lightning, hurricane, tornado, windstorm, hail
-
damage by aircraft
-
rain damage through an opening caused by wind or hail
-
damage by vehicles
-
building collapse
-
explosion/riot/civil commotion
-
vandalism/malicious mischief
-
falling objects (for example, trees)
-
water escape (overflow from plumbing, heating, or air conditioning), but not
flood
At JDW
Insurance, we recommend that you insure your home for "replacement value."
Relying on market value as an indicator of your level insurance coverage does
not guarantee that your home will be replaced with similar quality materials
and craftsmanship. However, replacement value assures you that you’ll be able
to rebuild a house of similar construction in the same location.
You have probably invested a lot of money in furniture, clothing, appliances,
electronic equipment, and other household contents and personal property. This
part of your policy protects you from losses to these items. In addition to the
risks noted above, you will also be covered for burglary and theft. Certain
property, such as furs, jewelry, and securities, are subject to limitations.
In the event that someone is injured on your property as a result of
negligence, liability protects you from claims up to the limitations of your
policy. And it provides medical payments regardless of who is at fault. Also,
damage to the property of others by anyone in your family is covered. No
deductible applies to this type of liability protection.
Other types of coverages are available. For example, an umbrella policy will
provide protection for claims, legal defense, and damages over and above your
standard homeowners insurance. JDW Insurance will be happy to tailor your
policy to your specific needs.
